1TB microSD cards revealed with ultra-fast speeds and a hefty price tag

Western Digital has taken to MWC to unveil 1TB microSD cards under the SanDisk brand. The company claims these cards are the world’s fastest flash memory option with plenty of storage space to boot.

The company announced the 1TB SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSDXC card with read speeds of up to 160MB/s and the ability to write at 90MB/s. It’s also worth noting that this new card uses A2 specification which means even faster access to photos and videos, but also shorter loading times for games and apps as well.

This new card is an alternative to the similarly sized, but slower microSD card recently announced by Micron

The size of the new microSD cards is pretty incredible, especially considering the new Samsung Galaxy S10+ holds the same amount of potential storage space but is only compatible with 512GB microSD cards if you want to add more.

The company has acknowledged the ever-expanding size and quality of content users are storing:

“Today’s smartphones and cameras allow consumers to create high-quality content in the palm of their hands, thanks to features like multi-lenses, burst mode capabilities and the 4K resolution. Western Digital continues to deliver the most advanced solutions to ensure consumers can reliably capture and share a special moment or create video content for personal or professional use.”

The Nokia 9 Pureview is a perfect future use case – with its nine lenses capable of capturing images at up to 240-megapixels and with DNG RAW files too. Imagine the storage you’ll need if you get snap happy with such a phone.

These huge cards offer plenty of storage for all your games, photos and more as well. A perfect future upgrade for your Nintendo Switch

The SanDisk 1TB microSD card will be available from April but prepare your wallet as prices will be around $449.99.
