Good weather can make a decent day into a great one. Bad weather can ruin plans. The weather affects our moods and choices more than we realize, so here are a few ways to find out the weather and have some fun with it.

For some time now, weather apps have tried to stand out from the crowd with cool interfaces or adding a dose of humor. In fact, you should check out some of these funny weather apps that make the forecast entertaining.

This new lot of weather apps relies on simple design choices, comparisons, or weather-based advice to add extra value. Oh, and this time, there’s an app to check air pollution too.

1. Breeze (Android, iOS): Fuss-free, Ad-free, Bloat-free

Breeze is likely to become the favorite weather app for many people. It’s free, lightweight, and pleasing to the eye, unlike most other free weather apps that are riddled with ads or have an old-school interface.

Breeze gets its data from Dark Sky, so you are assured of regular updates that you can rely on. The main screen gives you today’s temperature, sky conditions, and real-feel forecast. You can also get an hourly forecast under it, where you can check the chances of rain.

Scroll down for a weather forecast of the upcoming week, including rainfall likelihood. You can choose between three clean and minimalist themes, and search the weather conditions for other locations too.

Breeze is likely to become a favorite for its fuss-free, ad-free, bloat-free nature. If all you want is a simple good-looking weather app that tells you about today’s and the week’s forecast, this is the app for you.

2. Fashion Frog (Android, iOS): Weather-Based Fashion Advice

If you have ever regretted your choice of attire after stepping out, you need Fashion Frog. The app gives you a quick weather update and then suggests the best things to wear based on it.

Based on the morning, afternoon, evening, and night real-feel temperatures, the app analyzes what kind of a day it is going to be and puts together a basic set of recommendations. For example, wearing light or loose clothing on a sunny day, and the type of jacket you should go with. Suggestions are different for men and women, of course.

You can go with advice for today’s weather, or for the next two days, but you’ll need to change the day each time through the app’s settings. Fashion Frog is still in its initial stages, but the makers plan to add two tabs for wardrobe inspirations and a place for you to get ideas based on what’s in your closet.

3. AirVisual (Web, Android, iOS): Check the Air Quality in Your City

AirVisual shows the air quality index in any city as well as particular parts of the city

Temperature, wind, and humidity aren’t the only factors you need to check. Air quality in a city can affect your health even if you’re passing through for a few hours. It’s always best to check the air conditions too, and AirVisual is perhaps the best app for it.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a number with a color, with green being the safest and red being the most dangerous. It checks multiple air pollutants such as ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter, and you can check levels for each of these individually.

You can do a day-by-day check of your city or even an hour-by-hour check. Plus, there is the regular weather update too, with temperature, sky conditions, humidity, pressure, and wind conditions.

The nice part about AirVisual is that it also gives you data about certain parts of the city, helpfully plotted on a map. You’d be shocked to see how much the air quality can change between different parts of a city, so this data is well worth checking.

4. Climate For Me (Web): Compare Climates of Multiple Cities

Climate For Me lets you compare weather in multiple cities

Are you thinking about moving to a different city, or traveling for a few days, and trying to find the location that is best for you? Climate For Me lets you compare multiple cities to find your fair-weathered friend.

The web app can seem a little intimidating at first glance, but it’s not as hard as it looks. Search for multiple cities to add them side-by-side. Scroll down to the table to see the annual values for various weather metrics, as well as month by month.

Climate For Me charts the daily high, low, and average temperature, number of rainy days and how much rainfall there is, how often you’ll get clear or covered skies, the average hours of direct sunshine in a day, and the mean average of how long the day is. Plotting many cities next to each other, you’ll find the best climate for you.

5. Antiweather (Web): Weather on the Other Side of the Earth

Antiweather shows you the weather on the other side of the earth

You’re sweating in the sweltering heat, or being pelted by hard rain, or freezing in chilly winds. You think to yourself, “Man, I bet it isn’t this bad on the other side of the world.” Well, you can now check what it’s exactly like there.

Antiweather is a weather engine to find out what it’s like at the place that is the exact opposite point on our globe. Key in your city’s name, and the app will figure out the inverse latitudes and longitudes. And it will pick up the weather forecast for that place too, even if it’s in the middle of the ocean.

There are a few popular cities already given for comparison. For example, you can compare Rio De Janeiro and Tokyo, or Auckland and Seville. If you want a laugh, check out the extremes at the North and South poles. Antiweather will tell you the local time, temperature and real-feel temperature, cloudiness, wind factor, humidity, and sunrise and sunset times. While you’re unlikely to use it often, it’s worth checking out for a laugh.

Strike a Balance Between Useful and Fun

Something like Antiweather is a one-time use but entertaining nonetheless, while Breeze might be the app that you need for a no-fuss weather update. This list of weather apps mixes fun and utility.

After all, the best weather apps are going to be those that you want to check every day for their accurate forecasts. But they also should make you come back for other valuable features. Whether you’re looking for features or entertainment to go with your climate check, try this additional dose of useful weather apps that are fun to check every day.
