Apple might pack iOS 13 with a dark mode and new iPad home screen

Apple’s next major update to the iOS operating system, iOS 13, will include several new features, such as a dark mode.

Apple’s iOS 13 update will likely be previewed this summer at WWDC 2019. At the show we can expect to a dark mode, which will match the dark mode in macOS Mojave, according to Bloomberg. This new dark mode will be for “easier nighttime viewing”. Other improvements expected include changes to the CarPlay interface and iPad-specific features like a new Home screen and the ability to tab through multiple pages in an app.

That last feature will work similarly to tabs in a web browser. Finally, Bloomberg said there will be improvements to file management for iPad.  Previous reports have claimed Apple will also add a multitasking feature for showing two windows of the same app side by side. We’ve also seen evidence that Apple is working on a TV streaming service, news subscription service, and even a gaming service.

Keep in mind Apple might hold a spring event for new iPad models, and if it does, we could see those services previewed sooner. But we doubt it would launch them before WWDC and the iOS 13 update. It would be odd to see them arrive with a minimal dot update, such as iOS 12.2.

For more about what we expect to see in iOS 12.2, see Pocket-lint’s guide here.
