More Motorola Razr 2019 evidence emerges as transparent screens ordered

There is further evidence that Motorola plans to resurrect one of its most-loved retro brands in the form of a foldable phone version of the classic Motorola Razr V3.

We have seen other leaked information and rumours about such a device in the last couple of weeks, with the best indication yet being a patent filed with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

Now, it has been revealed that Motorola has hired Korean manufacturer Kolon Industries to make transparent, highly flexible polyimide films that will cover the display and protect it.

It effectively replaces the traditional glass front of a mobile phone screen, but remains strong and scratch resistant.

The display underneath with be a bendable OLED panel, and combined they will enable the handset to fold.

In the case of the new version of the Motorola Razr, that will be inwards as it is shown in the paten to be of a clamshell design, much like the original. However, the bottom keypad will be replaced by the bottom half of the bending screen.

Perhaps the most interesting revelation, however, is that the internal project name for the new handset is “Motorola FolderBoop”.

Of course, that might just be Google Translate’s particular sense of humour. Certainly gave us a giggle anyway.
