Nokia 8.1 official and release date revealed, mid-range marvel for early 2019
The pace of Nokia updates is unrelenting. The Nokia 8.1 is the latest phone to be announced that improves on an existing model.
The Nokia 8.1 is an Android One handset and part of the company’s self-proclaimed “value flagship” range.
That means it comes with upper mid-range specifications at a highly competitive £379.99 price point.
There is a 6.18-inch Full HD+ display on the front of the phone with HDR10 support and a notch at the top – seemingly mandatory these days.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor runs the show, which is a step down from the SD 835 used in the phone’s predecessor, the Nokia 8.
You are getting Android 9 Pie preinstalled, however – on the previously mentioned Android One programme. Plus, there is a dual rear Zeiss camera with optical image stabilisation and a pairing of 12- and 13-megapixel cameras. A 20-megapixel camera can be found in that notch on the front.
A 3,500mAh battery powers the whole shebang.
Parent company HMD Global will be bringing the Nokia 8.1 to the UK from 14 January 2019, with blue/silver, steel/copper and iron/steel colour combinations being made available in numerous retailers.
The company will also be introducing the Nokia 3.1 Plus handset from the same date, priced at £169.99. The Nokia 5.1 Plus will also be available, for £199.99.
