Xiaomi Mi 9 photos surface as launch date confirmed
Xiaomi is expected to release its latest flagship phone – the Mi 9 – on 20 February, according to reports hitting the Chinese media.
Shared by Chinese website IT Home, it appears that Xiaomi has an event in China on 20 February, likely to see the announcement of the new 2019 flagship phone – something also reflected on Xiaomi’s own website.
In the ultimate pre-event spoiler, Xiaomi senior VP Wang Xiang shared images of the new handset on Twitter, providing confirmation of many of the leaked details.
#Mi9 is here!
We used nano-level laser engraving holographic technology + dual layer nano coating to create this beautiful and unique color.

At the same time, we’ve also been treated to a couple of leaked photos of the Mi 9 in the wild, showing off the phone’s triple camera system. This was previously rumoured, and IT Home suggests that’s it’s made up of a 48-megapixel main camera, 12-megapixel secondary camera and a 3D Time of Flight camera.
The photos, from perpetual re-leaker Slashleaks (sourced from Weibo by the looks of things), also suggests that Xiaomi will be using an in-display fingerprint scanner – as per the Mi 8 Pro – and it looks like blue and black glass finishes for the phone.
Other specs are reported to include Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a tear drop notch, 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.
There’s no word on pricing yet and we suspect we’ll have to wait until later in February to find out what the price will be in the UK and rest of Europe.
